I was always fascinated by the drawings by Sue Macartney-Snape and collected all the drawings in the Telegraph Magazine. I never knew how to use these stereotypes in my hobby till I attended a workshop in 1996 during the Quilt Expo V in Lyon. The teacher Sally Lampi, from the USA, gave a course "Soft Sculpture Dolls - Heads and Hands" and making the doll at bottom right was the trigger to use Sue Macartney-Snape's drawings as an inspiration for more dolls.
